About

A few things about how I work.

I'm Morgan. I'm a portrait, family, event and arangetram photographer based in Chula Vista, working throughout San Diego County. My background is editorial — the kind of work you'd find in print magazines, not in a feed — and that's the register I work in for clients too.

Most of what I do happens during the session, not in editing. I prefer one tasteful portrait to a hundred near-duplicates. I'd rather take an extra ten minutes with a family at golden hour than rush through to the next location. I read the room. I slow down for grandparents and stay patient with toddlers.

San Diego, specifically

I've worked at every location you'd expect — Coronado, La Jolla, Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, the Spreckels Organ Pavilion courtyard — and many you wouldn't. I know which beaches will be crowded at 5pm in May, which parks have golden hour light through eucalyptus, and which venue green rooms have flattering window light. That local knowledge shows up in your photographs.

The Arangetram work

I'm recommended by Naad Studios and have a deep familiarity with the structure of an Arangetram weekend — from kosthumam portraits and the green room through the alarippu, the varnam, the receiving line, and the family blessing. I treat the cultural specifics as exactly that: specific, not generic event coverage.

Gear, briefly

Two Sony bodies, a small set of fast primes, and one workhorse zoom. Backup lighting, backup batteries, dual card recording. I haven't lost a frame in eight years. I keep the kit minimal so I can be present, not buried in equipment.

How to start

The simplest way is the inquiry form. Tell me what you're thinking about — even if it's vague. I respond within four hours on weekdays. From there we'll figure out whether what I do is the right fit for you. If not, I know good photographers in the area and I'll point you toward one.
